The river Irk beneath the railway lines leading to Victoria Station and Cheetham Hill Rd. The building to the left is marketed as the Greenquarter. The river has clearly been ‘improved’ at some point early in the period of the railways as ninety degree turns are relatively rare in nature.
It seems to be at this point where the Irk disappears underground as it runs to its final outlet into the Irwell just near Manchester Cathedral.
