Barefoot running has been floating around for a while. I have been tempted by the Vibram five-fingers for a while now. Lightweight and ‘all but’ barefoot but as a colleague proved when he bought his - they can be tricky to fit as they do not work on conventional shoe sizing.

Gizmag is running a story about Swiss protection socks. These work on the same principle as the five-fingers but go one step further by not pretending to be shoes and instead pretend to be socks. But these are socks with Kevlar in them (which is the material that protects feet from cuts). An interesting step forward is the price point - at a claim 55 Euros these are around half the prive of the five-fingers too.

It is hard to find much material about the socks but this German site seems to be the source.
