Free University of Lincoln →
The BBC is reporting the move by a group of academics from the University of Lincoln and the region to provide free education to a university standard as a response to the profit-oriented perspective of existing Higher Education Institutions. Yet another twist to the Academic Spring?

Chocolate Printer →
No, not a printer made out of chocolate - that would be silly. Make: is featuring a 3D printer that prints in the medium of chocolate.  The BBC also reported the potential commercial release of the printer which is an outcome of research at the University of Exeter. The BBC (and others) bemoaned the fact that the printer was announced after Easter. Note to journalists: There is no use...

Me Wanty →
How can you go wrong with a site that offers a VW Combi tent, Adjustable hot sauce and a cat wig (which is quite a disturbing image on many many levels).

“This is not just ordinary rain, this is salford rain!”
– A random tweet. If you are not familiar with M&S’s now cliched strapline this makes no sense… The comment on the youtube video sets the tone for the current state of the whole UK economy… 7 x 4inch, pure white, vellum envelope, quality finest, pure thick parchment paper,...

London's History Recycled →
Time Team may well be horrified by this form of crafting but it is one use for all of those clay pipes that often turn up in archaeology digs. They were possibly one of the first disposal consumer items. Perhaps ironically for such a fragile and disposable item that when broken up the bits of clay seem to be incredibly durable. Amelia Parker collects the ‘bits’, cleans them (quite...

Melodesign →
I found a business card in the ‘other’ room (i.e. the room where all the junk gets thrown) this evening. To the best of my recollection I don’t think I have ever been in the market for hand painted home accessories or ever spoken to a melodesigner. Nice items all cleverly colour matched but no prices - and we all know what that means. Some interesting links to other very posh...

Zavikon Island
I got really excited today when I found a photo of the “world’s shortest international bridge” on BoredStop. The claim being that the larger Zavikon Island is Canadian while the smaller island is in US territory. A quick check of Wikipedia and Google Maps proved that this is a long-lived and rather persistent urban myth (with postcards!) with both islands lying in Canadian...

“Debbie Dingle is Chastity Dingle’s half-niece and at the same time they...”
– I can’t believe I am trying to work out the family relationships of Emmerdale characters. This chart helped me work it out (and potentially get it wrong!)
